  1. GM's County Round-Up 8

    GM's County Round-Up 8

This week saw the County Championship move past the halfway mark of the season with the last round of fixtures before the Vitality Blast T20 tournament beginning. It was an extremely important week for England hopefuls, with only one more round of matches before the first Test Match against India in August.

At Old Trafford, a high-scoring draw between Lancashire and Hampshire featured a trio of GM hundreds. The first of which was awarded to Hampshire captain James Vince who won the toss and elected to make first use of an excellent batting track.

As usual the free-flowing Vince did not disappoint, hitting boundaries with ease to

  2. Whiter than White!

Ian White is back in the winner’s circle.

In the last Pro Tour event until September, the Unicorn man claimed the title at Players Championship 16 as he beat Darren Webster 6-3 in Barnsley on Wednesday.

It’s White’s second title of 2018, his 9th in all and puts him up to No.11 in the world.

Job done and this will be a huge boost for White ahead of next month’s World Matchplay in Blackpool.

He was always in control of the final....White raced into a 4-1 lead. He hit seven perfect darts in one leg and then banged in an 11 darter. The Unicorn ace missed three darts to win 6-2 but wrapped it up in the very next leg courtesy of a 15 dart hold of throw.

White beat some quality opposition on his way to the final and hit four 100+ averages during the day....he beat fellow Unicorn stars Ted Evetts and Keegan Brown plus Martin Schindler and Steve Lennon. He got the better of talented youngster Bradley Brooks in the quarter-finals before

  3. Wade goes close again!

James Wade reached his third final of the year in Barnsley on Tuesday but couldn’t quite get over the line.

The Team Unicorn star lost 6-2 to Mervyn King in the final of Players Championship 15 after a superb day.

It was King’s first title for almost four years as he averaged 105 to edge out Wade in the final.

Wade banged in a 126 finish on the bull to counter King’s 127 check-out on the bull, but the Unicorn man missed some chances and King took full advantage....from 3-2 in front he won three legs on the spin to close out the final.

En route, Wade beat the likes of Robert Thornton, Chris Dobey, Rob Cross and Steve Beaton.

Dobey’s fine run to the last 16 was matched by Unicorn young gun Adam Hunt.

Michael Smith and Ian White both reached the quarter-finals at the Barnsley Metrodome. Smith lost 6-3 to Beaton and White went down 6-4 to King.

  4. GM's County Round-Up 7

    GM's County Round-Up 7

In the background of England’s record-breaking series against Australia, the County Championship continued this week as we reached the halfway mark of the season.

With English players eyeing the upcoming series against India in August, those in the squad looked to find some form, whilst those on the fringes looked to bank as much cricket currency they could muster to force their way into the squad.

A couple of those looking to make a name for themselves are the Surrey duo of Rory Burns and Ollie Pope. Burns in particular has been in the England opening batsman conversation for the last couple of years thanks to some remarkably consistent run-scoring, passing 1,000 runs for the past 4 seasons and was the first man this year to pass the 500 mark before the start of Surrey’s match against Somerset this week.

Royal London One Day Cup Semi-Final

James Vince’s Hampshire side are through to the Royal London One Day Cup Final thanks to his chanceless 171 against Yorkshire.

Vince’s innings featured twenty boundaries and four 6’s on his way to back-to-back hundreds in the Royal London One Day Cup, in an innings that encapsulated all the talent Vince possesses, frequently striking boundaries with ease and rarely looking troubled by Yorkshire’s bowlers.

Vince entered the fray perhaps slightly earlier than he would have liked, coming to the crease in just the sixth over. However, if the Hampshire supporters were concerned, Vince very quickly put them at ease hitting an early boundary that indicated he was still very much in the form of his life.

  6. White and Smith go close!

Ian White and Michael Smith both missed out on the big prize at the latest Players Championship weekend.

Meanwhile Unicorn youngster Adam Hunt enjoyed one of the best senior results of his career, reaching the quarter-finals of PC 14 in Wigan on Sunday.

But it was a case of ‘Double Cross’ for White and Smith over the PC weekend! White was beaten by Rob Cross in Saturday’s final, while Smith was downed by the World Champion in Sunday’s semi-finals.

Cross won his first tournament since claiming the World Championship as he saw off White 6-4 in the final. The Unicorn man had come from 0-4 down to level the match and then missed an opportunity to take the lead before Cross wrapped up the victory. White blew six darts at doubles to make it 5-4.

It was White’s best run for three months. The highlight was an average of 109 in his last 16 win over German Martin Schindler.

Golden 8 Ball 2018 Festival Of Pool

Over the weekend, the Golden 8 Ball Tournament drew to a close in Blackpool, which was the largest event to date, featuring 256 teams over two weekends of events.

Powerglide is a proud sponsor of the tournament, the first of which was held in 2011. Despite the inaugural event containing just 28 teams, the years since have seen the tournament grow exponentially, doubling in size in 2012 and before the first ball was potted this year, it had grown almost tenfold in just 7 years.

Another Test Match series has been and gone and once again England finish with as many questions as they do answers.

There are still a some places up for grab, particularly in the batting line-up, which has again thrown the door wide open for someone to stake a claim in the County Championship before the next Test series against India starts in August.

Despite another change at the top of the order, England’s merry-go-round of opening batsman could well continue this summer. If a change were to happen, scoring 151 against a full-strength Hampshire side which featured 3 International bowlers, including Kyle Abbott, will have done Rory Burns no harm at all.

  9. Evetts does it again!

Team Unicorn Young gun Ted Evetts has claimed his second PDC Unicorn Development title in the space of just two weeks.

And this latest victory takes Evetts back to the top of the PDC Unicorn Development Tour Order of Merit.

He won an all Unicorn final in event 12 as he beat Dimitri van den Bergh 5-2. For the Belgian, it was a second loss in a final over the weekend. He was beaten in DT 9 by Martin Schindler on Saturday.

The German claimed a superb double as he also won event 10 with a 5-1 victory over George Gardiner.

Evetts beat Schindler on his way to his title on Sunday. ‘Super Ted’ also reached the semi-final of DT 11 but lost to eventual winner Ryan Meikle, who beat Rowby-John Rodriguez 5-3 in the final.

Unicorn’s German youngster Nico Blum also enjoyed a successful weekend on the Development Tour as he reached two quarter-finals.

Gunn and Moore (GM) has a proud and storied history of innovation and tradition. For over 130 years, GM has been at the forefront of cricket, representing some of the finest players the game has ever seen.

    Mike Brearley

These days, the helmet has increasingly become as important to a player as the bat. At all levels of the game, most wouldn’t even contemplate batting without one, and for colts around the country it’s mandatory to wear one.

Over the years, many of GM’s record breaking and trendsetting batters often played without a helmet at all. It is only on the last couple of decades that head protection has become the
