  1. Amazing Asada as Japan stun Austria!

Team Unicorn’s Seigo Asada led from the front as he and Haruki Muramatsu saw off Austria in the big shock on the opening night of the World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt.

It was a thriller, going all the way to a deciding leg, and Asada was sensational.

He hit four 180s and a 177 and finished superbly as they toppled Mensur Suljovic and Zoran Lerchbacher. It should have been more comprehensive. Japan missed three darts for a 4-1 lead after a hat-trick of Asada 180s.

Muramatsu missed a dart at the bull to wrap up a 5-3 victory and Suljovic led the fightback to force a dramatic decider.

Japan had the darts but it looked like being Austria’s night when Mensur hit a maximum. But not a bit of it.....Asada found another brilliant 180 in reply then hit the winning D10.

    They will now face Canada.

Scotland produced a top performance as Unicorn star Gary Anderson teamed up with Peter Wright as the pair overcame a potentially tricky test beating

  2. Royal London One Day Cup Round-Up 2

    Ben Stokes

The latest round of Royal London One Day Cup fixtures featured thrilling finishes, high scores and May’s inevitable bout of rain.

Three matches were abandoned without a ball being bowled, two of which featured Sussex who travelled to Gloucester on the Sunday and then to Surrey on the Tuesday without playing so much as an over of cricket.

Despite the weather, a number of GM batsman followed on from the terrific form from the previous round of fixtures.

A terrific unbeaten century from Adam Lyth seems the most appropriate place to start as his Yorkshire side headed to Leicester hoping to make up for lost time after their washed-out game the previous week.

In Leicester’s previous game against Nottinghamshire over 700 runs were scored in 100 overs, so when they won the toss, they would

  3. England v Pakistan Test Review

Sometimes things just don’t go to plan. The plan for England last week was to bat big, bowl well, win handsomely. In the end, none of those came to fruition.

    Dom Bess

England fielded three GM players last week; Dom Bess, Dawid Malan and Ben Stokes, fresh from his stint in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals.

Stokes and Malan, however, were both overshadowed by England’s newest Test player, the 20-year-old Bess.

In his short career, only 16 First Class matches to his name

  4. Super Ted wins again!

Team Unicorn starlet Ted Evetts has claimed another PDC title.

He won a PDC Unicorn Development Tour event in Hildesheim over the weekend to further boost his darting stock.

In a superb performance, Evetts lost only 10 legs in seven matches as he swept to victory in Development Tour 8, beating Geert Nentjes 5-2 in the final.

It’s a second title of the year for Evetts who won on the PDC Unicorn Challenge Tour in March, and he is now in second spot on the Development Tour Order of Merit.

Evetts also reached the quarter-finals of event 7, as did Dimitri van den Bergh! Fair play to the Unicorn star who travelled to play the weekend in Hildesheim after his heroics at the German Darts Masters.

There were four different winners over the two days of competition. Austria’s Rowby-John Rodriguez, Kenny Neyens of Belgium and England’s Luke Humphries joined Evetts with PDC Unicorn titles.

  5. Dimitri dazzles and comes close in Germany!

Team Unicorn ace Dimitri van den Bergh reached his first senior PDC final at the German Darts Masters.

But after amazing victories over Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson, he couldn’t get over the line on a record breaking day as he lost the final 8-2 to Mensur Suljovic in front of a World record 20,000 crowd at the Veltins Arena.

However, the PDC Unicorn World Youth Champion can still be extremely proud of his achievements.

“I guess I just ran out of gas in the final,” he said. “But it has been one of the best days of my life. To beat Michael and Gary for the first time and to do it in front of this crowd was unreal. This is a catalyst for me. I want more.”

Sadly, he just couldn’t get going in the final and was 5-1 down very quickly as Suljovic nailed some superb check-outs.....109, 100 and 80. The Austrian hit eight doubles from 12 attempts in his semi-final win over Peter Wright and he was 8/13 against Van den Bergh.

  6. Royal London One Day Cup Round-Up

    Ben Stokes

Runs have been the flavour of the month so far in May with the start of the Royal London One Day Cup signalling the beginning of white ball cricket in England.

Tom Westley typified that notion by notching up his first ton of the season, scoring 134 in 119 balls as Essex swept Middlesex aside in the opening set of fixtures. Westley’s 18 boundaries included a six before he was out to fellow GM player Ravi Patel just 5 runs short of the 250 target.

Less than a week later, Westley was in the runs again against Hampshire, this time making 66 at just better than a run-a-ball, setting a good foundation for his teammates to build on.

Their 304 run target wasn’t nearly enough in the end however as James Vince’s Hampshire side chasing the total down with over two overs to spare and losing only four wickets. Vince helped himself

    WBBL Final

The Suns were led by League and Play-Off final MVP Cat Carr who scored 19 points in addition to her 8 assists and 8 rebounds. Carr was helped along the way by Chantelle Pressley adding 12 points and Judit Fritz 10.

Sevenoaks hit the ground running, racing to a 7 point lead at the end of the first quarter before shutting the Riders out to take an 18 point lead into halftime, up 38-20, with Carr scoring 15.

Leicester attempted to mount a comeback in the third quarter, at one point reducing the deficit to 15 points, before the Suns rallied to extend their lead to 20.

Unfortunately, that rather put the nail in the coffin for the Riders and despite a spirited effort in the final quarter,

  9. Anderson back in business!

Gary Anderson shrugged off the disappointment of Premier League Finals Night to claim a fifth title of the year.

The Unicorn star won Players Championship 11 in Milton Keynes on Saturday as he beat young German Gabriel Clemens 6-5 in a thrilling final.

Gary bounced back in style after his semi-final loss to Michael Smith at the O2 to take a third Players Championship victory of 2018.

Anderson said: “To be honest I was going to go home after Thursday night but decided to play and I nicked it in the end. It was a tough old day and, in the end, a good result for the old man! I guess I needed that.”

The Scot won the quarter-final, semi-final and final in last leg deciders. It was a classy performance from a class act.

He averaged 107 in beating Adrian Lewis in the quarter-finals and Darren Webster in the semi-finals.

And the Scot came back superbly to beat the German in the final. He was 1-4 down but fought back to level. Clemens took

  10. Sublime Smith So Close!

Unicorn ace Michael Smith was beaten in the final of the Premier League in London.

Michael van Gerwen won the title for a fourth time and a third consecutive year with an 11-4 victory over Smith at the O2.

Smith was up against an inspired Van Gerwen as the Dutchman so nearly broke the world record for the highest average in the final of a TV ‘Major’. He averaged 112.37. In the 2015 Masters Final, Van Gerwen averaged 112.49

But the Team Unicorn star can still be mighty proud of his Premier League season. He has grown up as a man and as a darts player. His consolation is the biggest pay cheque of his career - £120,000 - and by reaching the final, he has also guaranteed his place at the 2018 Grand Slam of Darts.

“I guess I ran out of steam in the final. Ultimately I am disappointed not to go on and win because I played really well all night. But Michael played like a World No.1 and that was incredible!”

    “I have to
