England's number 4 (at the time of writing), hard-hitting Dan has been regarded as one of the country’s most talented batters since making 161 for Essex against Surrey in 2015 when just 17. In only his second first-class game, Dan became the third-youngest Championship century-maker and the youngest at The Oval.
In 2016, he made another three Championship hundreds in Essex's promotion year while his spin bowling began to catch eyes and wickets with both red and white ball.
In 2017, following 761 runs, he was named Young Cricketer of the Year by the Cricket Writers' Club and made his England Lions debut.
Internationally, Dan has a plethora of notable performances. In 2015 his 174 off 150 against Fiji was the highest by an English batsman in a youth ODI. In 2020, a 4-28 and quickfire 50* for England Lions v Cricket Australia XI was followed by a superb 190 and three wickets.
Dan made a full England debut against Sri Lanka in late 2020, scoring an impressive 73. Dan showed calmness and dynamism with an 81* against New Zealand last summer and, at the time of writing, is in Antigua batting for England against the West Indies.
