In 2013, Sam’s 1,180 County Championship Division One runs was the third highest total, form which he carried onto the international stage.
Though eligible for Australia or England, he made his Test debut for England in against Sri Lanka and compiled a composed 127 in the first innings of the second Test. He retained his place for the first Test against India, making 59 recording a half century at Trent Bridge.
Back at Middlesex, Sam was a pivotal part of Middlesex’s 2016 title win adding 899 runs – the total included a career-best, eight-hour 231 v Warwickshire at Lord's.
Last season Sam notched 1,047 to finish third in the Division Two batting totals.
