Sam Robson

A prolific run-scorer in the toughest of positions, Sam Robson has been near the top of the batting charts in the County Championship seemingly every year since his debut back in 2009.

It was 2013, in which his 1,180 runs in the top tier piqued the interest of the England selectors, a purple patch of form that he took with him to Australia, on an EPP tour, and Sri Lanka, with the Lions, where he scored a further five centuries.

Though eligible for Australia as well as England, he made his Test debut for Three Lions against Sri Lanka and compiled 127 in the first innings of the second Test. He retained his place for the first Test against India, making 59 recording a half century at Trent Bridge.

Back at Middlesex, Sam was a pivotal part of Middlesex’s 2016 title win adding 899 runs – the total including a career-best, eight-hour 231 v Warwickshire at Lord's.

He topped the averages in 2017 and has continued to score prolifically on the County scene, taking his First-Class record to 13,448 in 214 matches, an average of a touch under 40.

Whilst Middlesex struggled on a return to Division One in 2023, Robson’s tally of 856 runs made him the top-scoring opener that summer, to go with his 872 in 2024, as the 35-year-old shows no signs of slowing down his run-scoring exploits.
