Matt Critchley
- Profile
Leg-spinning all-rounder Matt made his senior debut in 2015 aged 18 - a week later he scored 137* v Northamptonshire which would make him Derbyshire's youngest first-class century-maker.
In 2018, Matt broke another three-figure milestone – his 105 at Lords made him Derbyshire's youngest century-maker at the ground, outdoing a record that had stood for 90 years. During the year he also showed his short-form ability smashing 19 runs off a final over v Yorkshire to seal a memorable Blast victory. No slouch with the ball, Matt also took ten first class wickets v Northants (again) to help Derbyshire pull off their first win at Chesterfield for 10 years.
In 2021, Matt moved into international reckoning by scoring 1,000 first-class runs and taking 32 wickets. Across all formats he recorded 1,318 runs and claimed 52 victims, was named in the PCA Men's Team of the Year and finished second in the overall MVP rankings.
Matt has started 2023 in fine style. Signed as an overseas player by Melbourne Renegades in Australia’s Big Bash League, he has also been called up to the England Lions ODI squad for their tour of Sri Lanka in mid-February.
