Royal London One Day Cup Round-Up 3

They say form is temporary but class is permanent, and nobody embodied that more this week than former England star and Warwickshire stalwart Jonathan Trott who notched up back-to-back centuries against Durham and Leicestershire.

The first game saw Durham bat first and rack up 299/8 from their 50 overs, featuring a fantastic 111 including 12 boundaries from Michael Richardson, just his second century in List A cricket and his highest ever score in the format.

The sport's biggest event has seen 72 players in recent years competing in a festival of darts across the Christmas and New Year period, with live coverage on Sky Sports being broadcast worldwide.

One thing that won’t be changing, however, is that the event will continue to be played on the Unicorn Eclipse HD2 dartboard.

The introduction of 24 further qualifiers will see the field increase to 96 competitors, with additional professionals joining an expanded group of international qualifiers which will include two female contenders.

  5. World Cup agony for Anderson and Scotland

World Cup agony for Anderson and Scotland

They came so close, but for a second time Gary Anderson and Scotland had to settle for runners-up spot in a World Cup.

Anderson and Peter Wright lost out to the Netherlands who defended their title and won the World Cup for a 4th time.

Holland won the final 3-1 as Michael van Gerwen beat Anderson in the reverse singles in Frankfurt on Sunday night.

The Unicorn ace had kept the Scots in the final as he hit five 180s in beating Raymond van Barneveld 4 legs to 1 in the singles.

But the Netherlands won the doubles and Van Gerwen then averaged 111 in beating Anderson 4-0. Gary himself had a 100 average but it wasn’t to be.

“Me and Peter did ok. Of course we are disappointed we couldn’t finish the job, but we will come back next year for another go. Fair play to Holland. They were the best team over the weekend,” Gary admitted.

After overcoming Japan, the Scottish pair needed a deciding doubles to get past Australia in the

  6. England v Pakistan 2nd Test Review

England v Pakistan 2nd Test Review

What a difference a week makes. The post mortem from the first Test would lead passive followers of cricket to believe that England would never win a Test Match ever again, with pundits and members of the media seeking star players to be dropped, coaches to be sacked and selectors to be re-selected.

In the end, England were hamstrung by Ben Stokes’ hamstring which denied him any chance of being involved in Headingley. His injury meant that a shake-up to balance the side was needed rather than wanted, forcing the hosts to make two changes in the bowling department to cover for Stokes’ all-round prowess. England did also make an inevitable change at the top of the order, as the merry-go-round of opening batsmen continued.

  7. The Andersons into World Cup quarter-finals

Kyle and Gary Anderson have steered Scotland and Australia into the last eight at the World Cup.

And the Team Unicorn duo remain on course to clash in the semi-finals in Frankfurt.

Kyle led from the front as Australia beat Spain in a thriller to reach the quarter-finals, while Gary was a class act as the Scots dropped just one leg in beating the boys from Brazil.

The Aussies face now Wales and Scotland play Japan.

It was an easy run for Scotland as Gary beat Bruno Rangel 4-0 and Peter Wright was a 4-1 winner over Diogo Portela and they will take some beating.

It was left to Kyle to help Australia past the winning post against Spain. Simon Whitlock lost to Cristo Reyes, so Anderson had to beat Antonio Alcinas. He duly did by four legs to one and he won it in style with a 170 check-out!

So it all rested on the deciding doubles and it went all the way to a deciding leg, but Australia dominated and Whitlock took out 70 and they were through.

  8. Belgium bonanza in Frankfurt!

Team Unicorn duo Kim Huybrechts and Dimitri van den Bergh produced a stunning fightback to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

Belgium came from 0-3 and 2-4 down to beat the Republic of Ireland 5-4 in a thriller.

The game changed in the 6th leg. The Irish duo of Steve Lennon and William O’Connor had left 48 to win the match 5-2......then from nowhere Van den Bergh, who had really struggled in the match, found a fabulous 130 finish on the bull to keep Belgium in the hunt.

Dimitri then hit a maximum and Huybrechts nailed ‘tops’ to force the deciding leg. When Lennon started with a 180 for the Irish, they were favourites but Dimitri stepped up to fire in another 180 of his own!

But there was more drama to come as O’Connor missed a dart at the bull for a 170 finish to win it and experience told for Huybrechts as he hit D18 with the last dart in hand to take Belgium through to a 2nd Round date with Finland.

    There were wild celebrations
