Huybrechts heartache in Hasselt

Team Unicorn's Belgian brothers were both desperately disappointed after bowing out of the European Championship on the opening night.

On home soil, Kim and Ronny Huybrechts both lost last leg deciders.

But Unicorn duo Kyle Anderson and Ian White were winners on Thursday in Belgium.

Kim Huybrechts went out 6-5 to Mensur Suljovic after hauling himself back into the match.

The Austrian took out 94 and 76 as he went 3-0 up. Back came Kim to reduce the gap to one before Suljovic nailed finishes of 100 and then 118. The Unicorn man was sat on 32 to level at four apiece.

Suljovic though missed two darts at D14 to win 6-3 and another at D6 for a 6-4 victory to allow Huybrechts to force that deciding leg.

Suljovic started with a 177 and Huybrechts couldn't recover as he followed his elder brother through the exit door.

Kyle Anderson was very impressive as he swept past John Henderson 6-1 to set up a 2nd Round clash against Jelle Klaasen. The Aussie took out 116 to open up a 3-1 lead and didn't look back. He averaged 97 and looked very good.

In a bizarre game which saw nine breaks of throw, Ian White survived two match darts to beat Darren Webster in a thrilling last leg decider.

Three times during the match the Unicorn man bust his score when on a finish and it looked like costing him. But he actually managed to come from 1-3 down to lead 5-4 before Webster levelled.

Webster had the darts in the last leg. Both players hit 180s leaving Webster two darts to win, but he missed and White stepped in with a superb 93 two dart finish to pinch it!

But Ronny Huybrechts will still be wondering just how he managed to lose against Gerwyn Price. The Belgian was looking to shine on home soil but despite a brilliant 143 check-out, he found a way to lose.

When Ronny banged in a 12 darter in the 8th leg, he led 5-3 but couldn't finish the job. Price took out 78 with the Unicorn man sat on D4. The Welshman then hit another 14 darter and in the deciding leg took the honours with Huybrechts sat on 40.

Elsewhere defending champion Michael van Gerwen opened up with a comfortable 6-2 win over fellow Dutchman Jan Dekker to set up a clash with Unicorn's Ian White in the last 16.
