Rydz hits the skidz

ADRENALIN seeker Callan Rydz swapped BMX tricks for the thrills-and-spills of the oche after SNAPPING his foot in lockdown.

The 23-year-old from Newcastle dropped just one set in 15 as he marched into the William Hill PDC World Darts Championship quarter-finals.

Rydz had an outstanding run at the Alexandra Palace, eventually losing out to eventual champion Peter Wright in a tight last eight encounter.

After his 4-1 fourth round thumping of Alan Soutar, the 150-1 tournament outsider said: “I was more into BMX than darts before I broke my foot.

“I used to be a bit of a daredevil on my bike. But I'll never try to do flips and tricks again.

“Last year I got a bike and I snapped three bones in my foot. I had to wear a moon boot for 2½ months.’

Rydz also admitted he would love nothing more than parading the Sid Waddell Trophy round St James’ Park, the home of his beloved Newcastle United.
