Gary Anderson is the new UK Open Champion!

The Unicorn star dug deep to see off young Australian sensation Corey Cadby 11-7 in a thrilling final.

“It was hard work but I am thrilled to win another Major. This is why we all play the sport,” he said. “Corey is a fantastic talent and we will be hearing a lot more from him over many years. But this was my day. I didn’t feel I was at my best although I found the big shots when I needed them.”

Anderson pockets £70,000 for his first ‘Major’ since the 2016 World Championship and of course he also guarantees his spot at the 2018 Grand Slam.

Gary came from 4-5 down, winning six legs on the spin to beat World Champion Rob Cross 10-5 in the quarter-Finals, before battling past youngster David Pallett 11-7 in the semi-finals.

And the Unicorn man came from 1-4 down to see off Cadby in the final. The Scot put together a burst of four legs to hit the front, winning them in 15, 13, 11 and 14 darts.

He grasped control of the final with back-to-back maximums and a brilliant 108 check-out to move 8-6 up with his opponent on a finish. Gary missed a dart at ‘tops’ for a 9-6 advantage but it didn’t matter.

From 8-7, three legs on the spin to win the title and deservedly so. Hopefully his back problems are on the mend and he can kick on in the Premier League and for the rest of the year. Anderson nailed D18 to complete the victory and claim his 6th PDC ‘Major ‘title’.

“It’s been a while and I have been disappointed to lose a few finals, but you know me because this will be forgotten soon and I move onto the next one!”

John Part’s brilliant run came to an end in the quarter-Finals. The Team Unicorn ace didn’t really get going and was beaten 10-3 by Robert Owen. But what a weekend for the Canadian, as he took a giant step to reclaiming his place back in the world’s top 64.

But this tournament was all about Gary Anderson.
