Wade just misses out in Barnsley

Unicorn ace James Wade lost out in the final of the first Players Championship tournament of the year.

But ‘The Machine ‘ produced a superb performance to reach the final on Saturday before losing to Michael van Gerwen 6-4.

Van Gerwen made it a Players Championship double as he beat young Aussie sensation Corey Cadby 6-1 in Sunday’s final.

Wade was terrific in reaching his first Pro Tour Final in more than a year. He cashed in on Van Gerwen missed doubles to reach four legs apiece in the final before the World No.1 closed out the match.

On the way, the Team Unicorn star saw off John Henderson with a 111 average and beat World Champion Rob Cross in a quarter-final last leg decider.

On Sunday Unicorn stablemate Ian White reached the semi-Finals before losing 6-3 to Cadby. That completed a decent weekend as he got to the last eight on Saturday where he lost to Gerwyn Price.

Cadby also edged out Gary Anderson 6-4 in Sunday’s quarter-Finals.

Unicorn duo Keegan Brown and Kim Huybrechts won through to the last 16 on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
