He is a World Champion and what a performance from Dimitri van den Bergh!
The Belgian youngster beat Josh Payne 6-3 to win the PDC Unicorn World Youth Championship in Minehead on Sunday night.
He also recorded the highest ever average in a World Youth Final....101.23
"It is an unbelievable feeling. I spoke to my Dad before and he gave me good advice as always. This is a very proud moment for me and my family," Dimitri said.
"Everyone comes into the Development Tour to hopefully make a future in the sport. Maybe I can make my future in darts for many years."
He was a worthy winner.
Van den Bergh raced into a 2-0 lead before Payne hit back. But 14 and 13 dart legs saw the Unicorn ace go 4-1 in front. Payne then hit a second maximum and a terrific 108 finish before a bit of brilliance from the Belgian.
He produced a magnificent 146 finish to take him to the brink of the title and although Payne managed to take another l leg, Van den Bergh wasn't to be denied.
In the 9th leg, he hit 177 and followed that with a 150 and then D18 to take the crown and pocket a cheque for £10,000
"This is a big step to the big time in darts. Hopefully there is a whole lot more to come. I just want to win!" Dimitri said
Congratulations to Dimitri from everyone at Unicorn.
