Matt Critchley
- Profile
Aged just 18, Matt Critchley entered the Derbyshire history books with an unbeaten 137 against Northamptonshire, making him the county’s youngest First-Class century maker.
That knock came just a week after his debut in 2015 and wouldn’t be the last record he set for Derbyshire, his 105 at Lord’s in 2018 making him the youngest to reach three figures at the ground for the Club.
In 2021, Matt moved into international reckoning by scoring 1,000 first-class runs and taking 32 wickets. Across all formats he recorded 1,318 runs and claimed 52 victims, was named in the PCA Men's Team of the Year and finished second in the overall MVP rankings.
Making the move to Essex ahead of the 2022 summer, Critchley endeared himself to his new supporters from the off, notching a century in his first innings for the Club, a 179-ball 132 at the beginning of the County Championship versus Kent.
A consistent performer on the County circuit, Critchley has been involved in each edition of The Hundred and enjoyed a stint with the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League in the 2022/23 winter.
Last term he added 662 runs and 34 wickets to his First-Class stats and a further 14 scalps in the Vitality Blast to take his tally of short format wickets to an impressive 120 at an average of 24.73.
