Nick Gubbins

A stylish left-hander, Gubbins made an immediate impact for Middlesex in the County Championship in 2014, making three half-centuries in his first four innings.

A first hundred, in the Royal London Cup in 2015, showed glimpses of his talent but it was during Middlesex’s 2016 red-ball triumph, a first in 23 years, where Gubbins really put down his mark.

He hit 1,409 first-class runs at an average of 61.26, striking four Championship centuries, including a career-best 201* against Lancashire.

A spate of injuries unfortunately followed and the 30-year-old eventually made the switch to Hampshire, looking to reignite his run-scoring prowess.

His 137* in the County Championship, followed by a List A century shortly after for his new club, showed signs of what was to come on the South Coast.

His 969 runs in 2023 came with three further red-ball centuries, a year in which he also captained Hampshire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, adding 404 runs as his side were just pipped at the end by Leicestershire in the final at Trent Bridge.

Last summer he once again notched up an impressive set of numbers, ending the summer by equalling his career-best score of 201* with a 317-ball effort against Worcestershire to secure second place behind Surrey.
