A classical right-hander with captaincy experience from early on in his career, Will Young has become an established New Zealand international in recent times.
Deputising for the injured Kane Williamson in India, the 32-year-old was the leading run-scorer and Player of the Series as the Black Caps created history with a 3-0 victory in October/November 2024.
Making his First-Class debut back in 2012, Young captained Central Districts to the one-day Ford Trophy (2016) and Plunket Shield (2018), all whilst wracking up numbers which had the international selectors taking note.
Around the New Zealand set up since early 2019, it wasn’t until December 2020 when he made his debut, against West Indies in Hamilton.
He added ODI and T20I caps in March of the following year and has represented his country on over 70 occasions in the past four years, bringing up over 2,500 runs.
Young has regularly spent his off-season plying his trade in the English County game, hitting 672 runs in ten matches for Northamptonshire in 2022, before entering the history books for Nottinghamshire in 2024.
With an unbeaten 174, his highest First-Class score, Young and Joe Clarke (213*) added an unbeaten 392 to claim the record, that had stood since 1903, for a third-wicket stand for the club.
