Aiden Markram

Aiden Markram’s cricketing career has been characterized by early promise, consistent performances, and an evolving leadership role within South African cricket.

His journey began at a young age, captaining South Africa's U19 side to victory in the 2014 ICC World Cup, the first to do so in the sport.

As the team’s captain, Markram not only lifted the trophy but also finished as the tournament’s third-highest run-scorer, establishing himself as one of the most exciting young talents in the world.

Markram made his Test debut for South Africa in 2017 during the home series against Bangladesh. He quickly made his mark, scoring an impressive 255 runs from just three innings being dismissed just once.

In the 2018/19 series against Australia, he scored a memorable 143 in the second innings of the first Test, proving he could handle the pressures of international cricket.

As his Test career progressed, Markram also established himself as a key player in South Africa’s limited-overs teams. He made his ODI debut in late 2017, and by the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, he had become a vital part of the South African batting line-up.

Markram’s leadership qualities have also become a significant part of his career narrative. Despite his relatively young age, he has been entrusted with captaincy roles in domestic cricket, in the IPL and as the Proteas’ T20 skipper. Recently he captained the Test side in Bangladesh in the absence of Temba Bavuma.
