How to Choose Your Size and Style of Wicket Keeping Glove?

Wicket Keeping Gloves, come in a range of shapes, sizes and styles. Ranging from small junior to large adults. Unlike Batting Gloves, all Wicket Keeping Gloves are ambidextrous.

If a set of Wicket Keeping gloves are either too big or too small, this will cause difficulty and discomfort when it comes to catching a Cricket ball. As a Wicket Keeper, you want to be able to remove your gloves with relative ease, however, you want the gloves to stay firmly on your hand when you are moving, particularly when you are diving to take a catch.

Wicket Keepers sometimes choose to wear Inner Gloves under their Wicket Keeping gloves which will also be a factor in what size Wicket Keeping Gloves fits and feels best.

To get a gauge what size Wicket Keeping Gloves you require, we recommend measuring the length from the base of your wrist to the end of your middle finger. As well as the width of the widest part across your palm excluding your thumb. Please reference the Gunn and Moore size guide.

How To Wear your Wicket Keeping Glove?

·      Wicket Keeping Gloves are designed to help the Wicket Keeper catch the ball whilst playing Cricket and are not to be worn on another area of the body. This product is not designed for any other sport or activity. The texturised rubber/Teknik™ area is designed to sit over the palm of your hand, and the leather/PU/PVC area is designed to sit on the back of your hand.

·      Wicket Keeping Gloves work best when the entire glove is completely dry. This includes the palm region of the glove and any Inner Gloves that are being worn beneath the Wicket Keeping Glove.

·      It is recommended that you wear a pair of Wicket Keeping specific Inner Gloves under your Wicket Keeping Gloves.

How To Adjust your WK Glove?

Wicket Keeping Gloves, offer no sizing adjustment. This means it is vitally important to get the correct size Wicket Keeping Gloves.

Caring for your WK Glove?

During the lifespan of your Wicket Keeping Gloves, there will naturally be wear and tear, such as abrasions/small scuffs and discolouration on the palm of the Wicket Keeping Gloves from catching the ball. It is also common to see wear/discolouration around the back of the Wicket Keeping Gloves from resting the gloves on the ground when waiting to catch the ball.

In many cases, the more you use your equipment the shorter the lifespan. However, with proper care and maintenance, you can extend this lifespan.

·      Do not expose to any solvents, adhesives or harsh chemicals.

·      Where possible avoid exposure to direct sunlight or any extreme conditions or temperatures as this will affect the lifespan and appearance of your wicket keeping gloves.

·      Do not modify, your wicket keeping gloves in any way. Including but not limited to: cutting, removing or adding material from any area of the glove. This may cause the Wicket Keeping Gloves to no longer conform to the laws put in place by the MCC regarding Wicket Keeping Equipment. (Law 27.2)

·      Unfortunately, the chemicals in sweat can be damaging to cricket equipment. If the gloves become wet through sweat during normal use, store them in well-ventilated conditions to help remove any residual moisture from the item.

·      If you notice excess dirt on your Wicket Keeping Gloves, this can be removed by using a clean, soft, damp cloth and then store the Wicket Keeping Gloves in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, till completely dry. This is also the case for the Teknik™ palm found on the Original LE Wicket Keeping Gloves.

·      Do not use excess force or detergent when cleaning Wicket Keeping Gloves. This will cause damage to the Wicket Keeping Glove and reduce the performance and lifespan significantly.

If you notice any of the following, then it would be suggested that you replace your Wicket Keeping Gloves:

·      Large Splits/Large Tears – Particularly around the webbing area between the thumb and index finger.

·      Severe discolouration – a small amount of discolouration is expected from normal use, such as marks from the sun, sweat, dust, dirt and impact from a Cricket ball.

·      The rubber palm is no longer producing sufficient friction to assist with catching the ball.

·      If any of the rubber thimbles are missing from the end of any fingers or thumb.

·      If the level of Cricket you regularly play at has improved since you purchased you Wicket Keeping Gloves and you no longer feel they provide you with suitable protection required.

Young Cricketers are likely to outgrow their gloves, meaning they are no longer fully protected across the desired area. It is important to regularly check junior equipment and ensure that it is still a safe size to use and fit for purpose.

When storing your Wicket Keeping Gloves the following is recommended:

·      Use a kit bag to store all your equipment, in a well-ventilated area that isn’t exposed to extreme temperatures.

·      Palm to palm – Ideally inside the storage bag provided when purchasing your Wicket Keeping Gloves, in order to keep your Wicket Keeping Gloves separate from the rest of your equipment.

·      If storing equipment over an extended period, such as the winter, we recommend removing any excess dirt and moisture from you Wicket Keeping Gloves by using a soft, clean, damp cloth and then leaving in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.

·      If the Wicket Keeping Gloves have been cleaned or they are wet from normal use. Please ensure they are completely dry before returning them to your kit bag or before they are stored for an extended time.
