How to Choose Your Size and Style of Batting Pad?
Batting Pads, come in a range of shapes, sizes and styles. This includes Right Hand and Left Hand variants as well as ambidextrous options, ranging in size from Small Junior to Large Adult. Right and Left-hand pads refer to the side wing on the pad. This is the area of the Pad around the calf region and should face towards the bowler, when the batter is in their batting stance. The wings on ambidextrous pads are on both the left and right hand sides.
In terms of sizing, we recommend measuring the distance from the top of your instep (where the tongue of your shoe would sit) to the middle of your kneecap. This will give you a measurement in inches to compare to the Gunn and Moore Batting Pad Size Guide.
How to Wear your Batting Pad?
· Batting Pads are designed to be worn on your legs and are not to be worn to protect any other part of the body. This product is not designed for any other sport or activity.
· Batting Pads are designed to be worn over your Cricket trousers.
· Batting Pads should feel comfortable when being worn for long periods. The majority of Batting Pads will become increasingly comfortable after each use, due to the comfort foam moulding to the shape of your legs.
· For comprehensive protection it is recommended when using Batting Pads you also use a set of Thigh Pads for complete coverage leg protection.
How to Adjust your Batting Pad?
Gunn and Moore Batting Pads have three Velcro straps at the rear of the pad. These straps can be adjusted to fit around the calf area and the rear of your knee. Batting Pads should be snug but not a restrictive fit, meaning your pads shouldn’t move around when batting or when you are running between the wickets.
Caring for your Batting Pads?
During the life span of your Batting Pads, they will naturally be prone to wear and tear such as abrasions/small scuffs to the knee area from coming into contact with the ground during normal use. Small scuffs/areas of wear are also common around the instep area due to friction from footwear. It is also common to see wear around the top hat area of the pad from players resting their bat and gloves when preparing to face a delivery, and adjusting the comfort and fit.
In many cases, the more you use your equipment the shorter the lifespan will be. However, with proper care and maintenance, you can extend this lifespan.
· Do not expose to solvents or harsh chemicals.
· Where possible avoid exposure to direct sunlight or any extreme conditions/temperatures, as this will affect the lifespan and appearance of your Batting Pads.
· Do not modify, your Batting Pads in any way such as: cutting or removing material from any area.
· Unfortunately, the chemicals in sweat can be damaging to cricket equipment. If the Batting Pads become wet through sweat during normal use, store them in well-ventilated conditions to help remove any residual moisture from the item.
· If you notice excess dirt on your Batting Pads, you can remove this by using a clean, soft, damp cloth and then store the pads in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, until completely dry.
If you notice any of the following, then it would be suggested for you to replace your Batting Pads:
· Large tears or splits across the Batting Pad.
· Velcro straps no longer securing the Batting Pad on your leg.
· Severe discolouration – a small amount of discolouration is expected from normal use, such as marks from the sun, sweat, dust, dirt and impact from a Cricket ball.
· If the level of Cricket you regularly play at has improved since you purchased your Batting Pads and you no longer feel they provide you with suitable protection required.
Young Cricketers are likely to outgrow their Batting Pads, meaning they are no longer fully protected across the desired area. It is important to regularly check junior equipment and ensure that it is still a safe size to use.
When storing your Batting Pads we recommend the following:
· Use a kit bag to store all your equipment, in a well-ventilated area that isn’t exposed to extreme temperatures.
· Secure any Velcro straps to stop them from catching on itself or on any other equipment.
· Ideally, store inside the storage bag provided when purchasing the Batting Pads.
· If storing equipment over an extended period, such as the winter, we recommend removing any excess dirt and moisture from the pads before leaving them in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.
· If the Batting Pads have been cleaned or they are wet from normal use. Please ensure they are completely dry before returning them to your kit bag or before they are stored for an extended time.
