McGeeney and Menzies join Team Unicorn

Mark McGeeney and Cameron Menzies are the latest two stars to join the world’s top darts team.

McGeeney was two darts away from winning this year’s Lakeside Championship, while Menzies is being tipped for big things over the next few years.

The pair are part of the Dunvegan Darts team - the same darting stable as Team Unicorn stars Gary Anderson, Michael Smith, Ian White, Chris Dobey and Adam Hunt.

The move further cements the relationship between the two companies. Dunvegan MD is Tommy Gilmour MBE: “I really am delighted that our relationship goes from strength to strength. The pair are top players and we are excited to watch the development of Mark and Cameron over the coming years.”

McGeeney has won the Dutch Open for the last two years, but you may remember his dramatic Lakeside Final in January when he lost 7-6 to Glen Durrant after being two legs up in the deciding set and he then missed two darts to win the title.

He also reached the World Masters Final in 2016 and 2017 and along with Menzies appeared in last year’s Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton.

“It is a big privilege for me to sign for Unicorn which will help me to take my career to the next level,” he said. “I am involved in two great darting teams, so the future looks very good.”

Menzies just missed out on qualifying for the Grand Slam knock-out stages at the Wolves Civic after his run to the semi-finals of the 2017 World Masters. He is thrilled by the move: “It is surreal for me because I haven’t had any backing like this before. It will be a fun and enjoyable experience especially with the calibre of players already at Unicorn.”

His first aim is a Tour Card at Q School in January then a place in the top 64. He certainly has the game to achieve that having already proved himself on the PDC Unicorn Challenge Tour this year.

Unicorn Managing Director Edward Lowy is also delighted with the duo: “This is great news! It is so pleasing to welcome two more talented Dunvegan players to Team Unicorn. Mark and Cameron have so many great darting opportunities ahead of them and we will help them on that journey every step of the way.”
