Ian White is back in the winner’s circle.

In the last Pro Tour event until September, the Unicorn man claimed the title at Players Championship 16 as he beat Darren Webster 6-3 in Barnsley on Wednesday.

It’s White’s second title of 2018, his 9th in all and puts him up to No.11 in the world.

Job done and this will be a huge boost for White ahead of next month’s World Matchplay in Blackpool.

He was always in control of the final....White raced into a 4-1 lead. He hit seven perfect darts in one leg and then banged in an 11 darter. The Unicorn ace missed three darts to win 6-2 but wrapped it up in the very next leg courtesy of a 15 dart hold of throw.

White beat some quality opposition on his way to the final and hit four 100+ averages during the day....he beat fellow Unicorn stars Ted Evetts and Keegan Brown plus Martin Schindler and Steve Lennon. He got the better of talented youngster Bradley Brooks in the quarter-finals before a semi-final victory over Steve Beaton.

“I am playing some really good darts at the moment,” he said. “I reckon I’m in the top five on the floor but it is about time I replicated that in the big TV tournaments on a regular basis and that is my target.”

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Joe Cullen joined Brown in losing at the last 16 stage.
