Michael Smith has the only 100% record in the Premier League!
The Team Unicorn ace made it four wins out of four with victory over Simon Whitlock in Berlin on Thursday.
Meanwhile fellow Unicorn star Gary Anderson fought back superbly to claim what could be a priceless point against Peter Wright.
But for Smith, another superb night at the office and what an office it was! A record-breaking crowd of over 12,000 in Berlin.
He may have been far from his best, but sometimes it is all about the win and despite an average of only 87 Smith got the job done.
“I am delighted with what I have done so far, but I have achieved nothing,” he said. “I will have to play a whole lot better than that, but there was pressure coming into the game because we had both won out first three matches. I will take the win for sure.”
A scrappy affair, Whitlock took the opening leg before Smith seized control as he won four consecutive legs. The Aussie threatened a comeback but the Unicorn man wasn’t having any of it. A 106 finish and another three straight legs for a 7-3 victory and top of the Premier League table on 8 points.
Anderson averaged 105 but had to scrap every inch of the way to grab a draw against Wright. To be fair, he played superbly in what turned out to be the match of the night in Germany.
The Scot made a strong start...a 14 darter and a sublime 150 finish to move two legs clear. But back came Wright with three legs on the spin. Anderson hit back with an 11 darter after hitting six perfect darts!
Wright put his foot on the gas with three more straight legs...a 13 darter, followed by a 12 dart leg and a 120 finish. Anderson though hit back brilliantly with 12 and 11 dart legs and then a superb 86 check-out on the bull to make it six apiece after an enthralling half-an-hour of darts.
Elsewhere Mensur Suljovic secured his first win as he swept aside Gerwyn Price.....Rob Cross punished a stack of missed doubles to beat Raymond van Barneveld and Michael van Gerwen was far too good for Daryl Gurney.
