Anya Shrubsole’s Year to Remember

GM would like to extend huge congratulations to Anya Shrubsole on rightfully being named one of Five Wisden Cricketers of the Year!

We here at GM couldn’t be more proud or amazed by her incredible performances that she has displayed throughout her remarkable career.

Her achievements throughout the World Cup last summer has also meant that for the first time ever, a woman has adorned the front cover of the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack.

She was named player of the final after taking 6-46; including a spectacular spell of 5-11 to lift the World Cup at the Home of Cricket. In the semi-final she displayed nerves of steel as she slapped the winning runs through cover, exhibiting the might of her GM ST30.

The cherry on any cricketing cake, however, is to be named one of Wisden’s five Cricketers of the year.

Of the 590 players to have been previously named on the list since 1889, there had only been two women, Claire Taylor (2003) and Charlotte Edwards (2014).

Along with fellow World Cup winners Heather Knight and Natalie Sciver, Shrubsole joins a long list of storied cricketers to have won the award over Wisden’s long and illustrious history.

Players can only ever be named once on the list, which once again illustrates the significance of the achievements made this past year by Shrubsole.

Earlier this year she, along with her fellow England teammates, was awarded an MBE for services to cricket in the New Year’s Honours list and was shortlisted for the prestigious BBC Sport Personality of The Year award.
